The Tao symbolizes the union of opposites, and when applied to socionics you can see how the different blocks complement each other:
example:
The white areas are yang, associated with light, life, goodness, happiness, activity, warmth, day, etc. In the personality, the ego and super-id blocks are yang.
The black areas are yin, associated with darkness, death, evil, sadness, passivity, coldness, night, etc. yin complements yang, and in the personality, the yin blocks are the id and superego.
The total Self is the flow of yin and yang, represented by the blue arrows. From the perspective of the Self, yin and yang energies flow in completely harmony and balance, with neither one dominating over the other. The combination of yin and yang produces life energy ("Chi") which sustains the Self.
The ego contains a hidden seed of darkness, which takes the form of the id. This id inflates when the ego has reached its peak, and leads to the superego through the demonstrative function.
Likewise, the superego contains a hidden seed of light, which takes the form of the super-id. The super-id inflates when the superego has reached its peak, and leads to the ego through the mobilizing function.
