Pulled the ol' engine the other day. It's running but has 300K miles on it and it's starting to smoke. Tore it down and it is in surprisingly good shape on the inside. Cylinders look great except the normal buildup of carbon above the ring contact area. Bearing looked great, and no real wear on the crank. Looks like I might be able to get away with an overhaul and a head rebuild. I think the valve seals were the culprit with the smoking.
Anyway, I'm looking around the net for bearings, rings, and seals. What the hell is up with the pricing of the rings? Are they friggin' made of platinum or something. A ring set costs over $100 a piston. I'll blob hone the cylinders and slap the bitch back together before I pay that damn much for a set of rings.
Anybody got any sources that are little more reasonable? Engine is an NF.
Thanks,
Dave
